Global green bond issuance rises in second quarter of 2018, but growth continues to moderate (Moody's)

Global green bond issuance totaled $44.9 billion for the second quarter of 2018, marking a material increase in issuance compared to the first quarter of the year, according to a new report from Moody’s Investors Service. While the past three months were the second highest quarter in the decade-long history of green bonds, the market continues to expand well below the growth rates seen in 2017.
“We are trimming our full-year expectations for green bond issuance to between $175 billion and $200 billion from $250 billion,” says Matt Kuchtyak, an analyst at Moody’s. “While we expect a more active second half of the year, this is unlikely to fully offset the growth moderation seen during the first six months of 2018.”
